The Voter ID, officially called the Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), is a photo identification document issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to Indian citizens who are eligible to vote. Its main purpose is to verify a voter’s identity, enhance the efficiency of the voting process, and help prevent impersonation and electoral fraud during democratic elections. It is also popularly referred to as an election card, voter’s card, or simply a Voter ID card.
